Outline of Planning Steps:First, we had the idea to paint a mural. We contacted local community organizations to see if anyone was interested in having a mural. We found out that the Children's Home needed a mural painted, and met with them to plan the specific details. We chose a date that worked for our chapter and the Children's home. We announced the event at our chapter meeting and visited with other chapters to promote the event. We purchased paint and supplies a few days before the event. The night before the event, we drew pictures on the walls and get everything setup. The day of the project, we painted the mural at the Children's home.

During the execution of the project, what areas/procedures went well?

The timing was perfect, we finished an hour early and it looked great! The flow of people because we had people come and go in 2 hour shifts. We had more than enough paint. We stayed within our budget! We had a good turn out of people. We also developed a good relationship with the Children's Home.

During the execution of the project, what areas/procedures could have been improved?

We had to leave to buy more tape and brushes. Communication could always be improved so that when everyone arrived they knew exactly what to do. The paint could have dried faster and better. Clean up could have gone faster and better but we were limited to one bathroom and limited supplies. It would have been nice to have more APO people from our chapter and other chapters at the project.

Additional information provided regarding this project:

We planned this event at least a month in advance. We kept in touch with a lady from the Children's Home, Emily, throughout the process. We visited three other APO chapters (U of I, ISU, IWU) to promote our event. We provided free food at the event. It was a huge success!
