| Outline of Planning Steps: | To prepare for the project my co-chair and I (along with help from a couple other brothers) had to: contact and secure catering secure funding from various organizations on-campus contact and invite senior citizens in the area plan a theme buy and hang up decorations organize brotherhood help publicize setup and clean up the day of the event secure the band create pamphlets for the event advertise prepare a photograph backdrop and buy supplies for photographs |
During the execution of the project, what areas/procedures went well?
Overall the project was a success. The communication between my co-chair and I was excellent and we were both very dedicated to our separate tasks for carrying out this project. There was a good brotherhood and senior citizen turnout and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves. The theme was "Do Wop Sock Hop," which is a very fun 50's theme and helped keep a lively atmosphere throughout the night. We also had no trouble contacting people around campus to help us with fine details, such as securing catering, booking rooms, and so on.
During the execution of the project, what areas/procedures could have been improved?
Unfortunately we did not have a committee under us to help along the way. My co-chair and I did much of the organization by ourselves, but there are a select few brothers who offered a hand when we asked. At first there was not much excitement for the event from seniors and brothers alike. The date of the event was moved up three weeks which made it difficult and stressful at times, but in the end the brotherhood pulled through and it was a very good event.
Additional information provided regarding this project:
Senior Citizen's Prom is one of the most enjoyable events of the year in our chapter. Sometimes it is hard to drum up excitement for the event, or help putting it together, but in the end brothers always pull through for brothers. It is enjoyable to see the gap between old and young bridged, and to see the faces of our prom King and Queen light up when they are crowned. This year the King and Queen were Pat and Jim, an elderly couple who have been together countless years and have true dedication and love for one another. Jim is confined to a wheelchair but he was still out there with Pat, dancing the night away. That love is what made me decide that they should be the King and Queen for the night, and is what made the entire event and hours put into organizing the event worth it. I know that I speak for several brothers when I say that this was a truly exceptional year for Senior Citizen's Prom, and that next year will be even better and I am already looking forward to it.
