Become an APO LEADS Presenter

Steps to become a Certified APO LEADS Presenter...

To become a certified presenter brothers must demonstrate proficiency in both Presentation & Facilitation skills.  Each area has 4 options that lead to certification as shown below.

After certification, the presenter may then choose to become an APO LEADS course presenter. To do so, one must complete content training or advanced presenter development training - see specific requirements in Step 4 below.

Step 1. Attend the Basic Skills Webinar Sign up using our online form

Step 2.  Presentation Skills (PS)

Option 1—Exemption

A brother may request a credit for presentation skills based on their profession or professional experience. To obtain exemption provide evidence of qualification by emailing the training coordinator at training.coordinator@apo.org.

Option 2—Live Review

The training coordinator will schedule a trainer or observer-level presenter to be present at the event. The observer or trainer will evaluate the presentation based on a set of guidelines. A passing score must be achieved in all areas (see evaluation system) to receive credit for the course.

All interested participants should contact the training coordinator at training.coordinator@apo.org to include the details of where and when the presentation will occur.

Option 3—Video Review

The participant makes a videotape or posts a YouTube video of the presentation. The observer or trainer will evaluate the presentation (see evaluation system). A passing score must be achieved in all areas to receive credit for the course.

All interested participants should contact the training coordinator at training.coordinator@apo.org

Option 4—Certification Course (this option is usually combined with Facilitation skills)

The presentation skills module of a certification course will focus on providing feedback to the trainees about their actual presentation behavior. The course content will include using PowerPoint®, points to making memorable presentations, and exercises to improve presentation skills. Written feedback will be provided to the trainee at the end of each module.  Participants in this course need to bring notes from familiar material. The material does not have to be APO related. Ideally the material should be from a previously given presentation.

Written feedback will be provided to the trainee at the end of each course which will also be available for the trainee's viewing by logging into the Leadership Development portion of the National web site. See the description of the Evaluation System which follows and the feedback form.

If you are interested in attending a Presentation Skills Course you may sign up here, or if you would like to schedule a Presentation Skills Course contact the training coordinator at training.coordinator@apo.org

Step 3. Facilitation Skills (FS)

Option 1—Exemption

There is not an exemption for Facilitation skills based on their profession or professional experience.

Option 2—Live Review

The training coordinator will schedule a trainer or observer-level presenter to be present at the event. Leading groups through processing an exercise and resolving conflict in the group must be evident in debriefing the lens. The observer or trainer will evaluate the presentation based on a set of guidelines. A passing score must be achieved in all areas to receive credit for the course.

An interested participant may contact the national training coordinator at training.coordinator@apo.org with the details of where and when the Facilitation will take place.

Option 3—Video Review

The participant makes a videotape or a YouTube post of facilitation. Leading groups through processing an exercise and resolving conflict in the group must be evident in debriefing the lens. The observer or trainer will evaluate the presentation based on a set of guidelines. A passing score must be achieved in all areas to receive credit for the course.

Interested participants should contact the training coordinator at training.coordinator@apo.org

Option 4—Certification Course (this option is usually combined with Presentation skills)

The Facilitation Skills module of the certification course will teach the trainees general ideas about group dynamics. The focus of the course will be on skills development, specifically leading groups through processing an exercise and resolving conflict in the group. The trainees will have multiple opportunities during the course to practice these skills and receive feedback.

For this course a trainee needs to bring two exercises that can be debriefed. Any team building kind of activity is fine. Name game or ice breaker types of games should probably be avoided as they do not have a lot of meaning to process. After attending the Basic Skills webinar, possible choices for activities will be sent to you.

Written feedback will be provided to the trainee at the end of each course which will also be available for the trainee's viewing by logging into the Leadership Development portion of the National web site. See the description of the Evaluation System which follows and the feedback form.

If you are interested in attending a Facilitation Skills Course you may sing up here, or if you would like to schedule a Presentation Skills Course contact the training coordinator at training.coordinator@apo.org.

Step 4 Select APO LEADS Course(s) to Present
