The Phi Xi chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, national co-educational service fraternity at Austin College, hosted the 16th annual Roo Boo on Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 with over 1,300 people in attendance. Roo Boo is a free, safe, alternative, trick-or-treating event, for children 12 and under and their families, that provides a night of candy and fun for the Texoma community.
This year, 51 campus organizations at Austin College participated with over 250 student volunteers across the event dressed in costume for the Halloween celebration. Members of Alpha Phi Omega collected over 600 bags of candy for this signature Austin College event. Raffle prizes were also given throughout the 2-hour long event due to the generosity of local businesses in the area. The proceeds of this year's Roo Boo were donated to the Sherman Housing Authority, which aims to increase the availability of decent, safe, and affordable housing in the community, ensure equal opportunity in housing, promote self-sufficiency and asset development of families and individuals, and improve community quality of life and economic viability. Phi Xi raised approximately $350 in which they purchased snacks and toiletries requested by Sherman Housing Authority for children at their facility.
