My name is Victoria Sweeney, Albright College Class of 2015 and Mu Eta’s current Vice President of Service. Mu Eta has been hard at work this semester with service projects ranging from simple dorm storms, to assisting at a Therapeutic horse facility, to working with children at a family residential center. We have one project that has been on going throughout the semester… A recent graduate and Mu Eta Alumni, Jaime Goldschmidt in combination with Alpha Phi Omega, always held some kind fundraiser to support the National Parkinson Foundation because of her family history with the disease. The semester after Jaime’s graduation Mu Eta did not do a fundraiser for the foundation. Since we did not do a fundraiser, a brother brought up the idea of doing fundraisers throughout the semester and surprise Jaime and her family at the Unity Walk hosted by the National Parkinson Foundation in New York City. Throughout the semester, we have done a variety of fundraisers, including a dorm storm, T-Shirt sale, and a Friendly’s night fundraiser. When Mu Eta to go to the Unity Walk in the beginning of the semester, we set an original goal of fundraising $800. A couple of weeks before the walk we sat down and realized that our goal was not as obtainable as we thought, so we lowered it to $500 or $600, if we were lucky. In our last efforts to raise money, a week before the walk, numerous emails and calls were sent out and we were receiving donation upon donation. At 5:45 am on Saturday, April 27th Albright College’s Alpha Phi Omega started their trek to New York City’s Central Park to surprise a fellow alumna, Jaime Goldschmidt, at the Parkinson’s Foundation Unity Walk. Everyone was anxious to hear the final amount that we had fundraised throughout the semester, because last they knew, we had around $400.
